March Membership Meeting Recap

We had a very full house for our meeting thi smonth, including 6 visitors and 4 new members!
  • Congratulations were given to Patti Coppock for the honor of winning Viewer's Choice Award at QuiltCon for her fun quilt titled "Bob" - a quilt based on a drawing by her grandson.
  • Our QuiltCon Charity Quilt, "Who Needs Words to Tell a Story" was also very well received.  We saw lots of great comments, pictures, shares and mentions on Instagram.  This quilt was designed by Patti and Jane Swanson and worked on by several of our members.  Congrats to everyone!
  • UPCOMING EVENTS:
    • Sherri Lynn Wood Workshop, Patchwork Doodle, is now open to non-members.  Cost for members is $120 and $160 for non-members, which includes membership in the guild.  There will also be an interactive lecture in the evening which is included with the workshop, or $5 at the door for those who do not attend the workshop.
    • Sew Day is this Saturday, March 7th from 9am-6pm at HOgan Taylor, right next to Utica Square.  Cost is  $5 and bring your own lunch (or eat at one of the nearby restaurants).  Address can be seen on the Event post on the Facebook page.
    • Registration for the Retreat is now open and a $50 deposit will save your spot (total cost is $250).  The dates are September 17-20.  The Registration Form can be found under the Files tab at the top of our Facebook page.
  • UFO Challenge - If you weren't able to turn in  your worksheet this month it can still be turned in and your $5 paid next month.
  • Speaking of payments...we are no longer using Member Planet so please do not try to pay through that app. Payments can be made using PayPal to tulsamodernquilts@gmail.com. Please use the Friends & Family option when making a payment so we are not charged a fee. Also be sure to put information in the Notes box, including your name and what the payment is for. You can also pay with cash or check if you prefer.
  • Raffle: This month we raffled off a Binding Lazy Susan made by Toni Napier's husband and our President, Julie Tuller was the lucky winner. Tickets were $5/chance and will go to the guild to support the programs and activities we want to have. We will have these raffles on occasion, so stay tuned!
  • Julie talked about lots of sew alongs going on over at Instagram that are fun to participate in and much of the time include prizes. If you happen to know of any fun sew alongs or challenges, feel free to share them with the group here on our page! Following are some of the hashtags you can check out to find out more:

  • April 5" charm swap - the color will be BLUE. Remember, the swap is for 56 charms and 1 yd will yield just that many!
  • Our special guest presenters for the evening were Tisha Bowen & Vicki Medlin from the OKC MQG. The title of their presentation was "Are You Managing Your Stash? Or Is Your Stash Managing You?" At the beginning of the meeting they did a little survey about why we have purchased fabric.
Apparently members of the TMQG are impulse buyers 😂 They gave us lots of great information, tips and tricks on how to manage and sew with your stash so it doesn't get out of control. They had some handouts for us to take home and even treated us to a little trunk show (first 5 quilt photos)!

  • Of course we ended the meeting with Show 'n Tell from our talented members.
