Community Projects

The Tulsa Modern Quilt Guild chooses to give back to our community by making donation projects.

2021-2022 Charity Recipient

Youth Services of  Tulsa

"Often the youth arrive with nothing of their own, but while they stay with us, they "shop" at our clothing closet. When they leave the shelter, they most often end up taking their belongings with them in a trash bag... so having a nice tote would be great."

Members are making duffle bags/totes to donate to Youth Services of Tulsa to be given to kids in the foster care system. Bags should have a zipper closure and be of medium to large size.

2020 Charity Recipient

Hillcrest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

A special part of the Peggy V. Helmerich Women's Health Center @ Hillcrest is the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  Infants hospitalized in the NICU often have complications of prematurity or neonatal infections and health challenges from birth.  Their challenges are met with exceptional medical care and support in this unique state-of-the-art facility with skilled and compassionate staff.

This Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was built after seven years of research.  The 42-bed facility features a unique pod design with subdued lighting and sound, that enhances the developmental environment for infants, and provides privacy for families.  This unit caters to a family's need for consistent physician contact and privacy with their infant.

GUIDELINES:  Quilts should be no larger than 36x36 and no smaller than 24x24, but do not need to be square.

2019 Charity Recipient

St John Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Our members so enjoyed making and donating the NICU quilts in 2018 that we decided to continue making NICU quilts in 2019, this time donating to St. John Medical Center.  Our final count of donated quilts for 2019 was 147 quilts!  We were able to deliver 60 quilts in November just in time for the holidays.  The nurses really enjoyed going through the quilts and picking just the right one for the families under their care.

2018 Charity Recipient

St Francis Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The Henry Zarrow Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at The Children's Hospital at Saint Francis has been the site of life-saving neonatal services and miraculous recoveries since 1978. Today, our NICU cares for nearly 850 newborns and their families annually, and serves as a trusted regional center for Oklahoma and neighboring states.

Learn more about the Saint Francis NICU, here.

The quilts the TulsaMQG make throughout the year will be given to families whose babies have been in the NICU for an extended period of time and are now ready to go home.

Because St. Francis promotes Safe Sleep with no blankets in cribs, we are encouraging these quilts to be used for covering car seat carriers,  eventually for tummy time and hopefully a quilt they will treasure forever.

Guidelines:
  • Quilts should be approximately  30" x 30" – a little larger or a little smaller is just fine, and they don't have to be square!
  • Modern aesthetic
  • Quilt-shop quality fabric and 100% cotton – please no embellishments.
  • Refrain from heavy quilting so the quilt stays nice & soft.
  • Accurate/adequate seam allowances that will withstand much love, washing & use.
Quilts can be displayed during Show & Tell at monthly meetings and then left for donation. The Board and/or a charity committee member will deliver finished quilts.

The 2018 Board Members displayed baby quilts they made as examples when
we announced the 2018 donation quilt recipient at the January meeting.
