Thanks to everyone who was able to make it to our April meeting!
We had several visitors in attendance this month. We hope you enjoyed your time with us!
We started off our meeting with our monthly 10-minute tip. Carol did a really fun 10-minute tip on a technique she used to make a t-shirt quilt using grid interfacing + basting spray. With the grid printed on the interfacing it helps to keep everything square and you can easily sew your sashing to the T-shirt. Thanks Carol!
Lots of announcements this month:
- Don’t forget our April 21st Sew Day in Broken Arrow at Sew Much More Fabrics. 9:00a-3:00p. $5.00. Sign up on Member Planet.
- April 15th is the Green Country Quilt Show submission deadline. Get those forms turned in!
- May 19th we’re doing an Epic Sew Day from 9a-9p at Hogan Taylor (our old meeting location by Utica Square.) $10 for the day. Sign up on Member Planet.
- We’re going to do a "Mug Rug" Swap with the NW Arkansas Guild! We’ll have a form available for members to use to sign up. Sign-ups are due in May. We’ll get our name assignments in June and then Show & Tell in August before we send them off to their Guild. They’ve never done a Swap before and several of our members haven’t either, so this will be a fun challenge.
- The Vice President's Mini Quilt Challenge is due in May. To participate, turn to page 74 in a magazine and use that page spread as inspiration for a mini, 30” or less. No sign-up required; just bring your mini to show off at our May 3rd meeting!
- At our June meeting we will be having a guest speaker - Malka Dubrawsky. On the following Saturday, June 9th she will be teaching a workshop on one of her quilt patterns. More details will be coming soon. Cost for the Saturday workshop will be $65, plus the pattern and materials. Her website is www.stitchindye.com.
- Retreat sign-up is still available. Sign up on Member Planet! We’ll be offering t-shirts in the near future.
- The NW Arkansas Guild is having their first Quilt Show this weekend, April 13 & 14th if anyone is available and interested in going over.
For the April meeting, members were encouraged to bring a piece of fabric, a quilt top or an unfinished project that they’ve fallen out of love with or are just ‘stuck’ on. Several members showed some unfinished projects, or partly finished projects and received lots of feedback from the group. Discussion took place on deviating from an original plan in order to ‘just get it finished’, the option of donation and even, feeling the freedom to throw something away. I know that thought of throwing something away is ‘shock and horror’ and ‘never!’ to some of us, but sometimes we just need to be able to let things go in order to make ourselves more free. And that’s okay! Be free! Do what YOU need to do, whether that’s hanging on to every unfinished project until the end of time, keeping it on your design wall until the creative process kicks in, donation, or kicking it to the curb.

Speaking of more spring cleaning and getting rid of things, we’re planning to do a Garage Sale in May at the monthly meeting. Have sewing related items you no longer want/need? Guild members are welcome to put a price on them and bring them to the May meeting and put them up for sale. (Any money you make will be your own; this is not going back to the Guild as a fundraiser.)

We've been having such a great turnout for Show & Tell this year! At our April meeting we had 10 NICU quilts shown off & turned in, plus another 16 quilts and 1 patchwork bag. Great work everyone!
