August Meeting Recap

April Smith kicked off the meeting with a group discussion about the oldest quilts in our possession and the name of the patterns.  It was fun hearing about members' quilt collections.

Our membership continues to grow every month.  We are 82 strong right now!  We enjoy meeting new members and seeing their work.  We have so much to learn from and teach to one another.  This year has really highlighted that fact with the plethera of speakers and teachers we have had who are members.  My favorite thing about quilting is the wonderful community of makers it has introduced me to.  I have heard several of my fellow quilters say the same thing.

Our members are working on 12" finished low volume blocks for our new Tulsa MQG banner.  We have about half of them finished and turned in and we need about 10 more.  Kelli Heath and Deena Drevs are leading this project so please contact either of them with questions or to volunteer to help.

Final payments for Tulsa MQG Fall Retreat are due in September.  Registration is now open to guests.  Retreat t-shirts are available for purchase for $25.  The design is really great thanks to Rebecca Gore and Cindi Kneff AND you do not have to be coming to the retreat to order a t-shirt.  Contact Cindi Kneff for more information.

Tulsa MQG member Daneisha Johnson did a fun and informative presentation on Modern Traditionalism.

According to the Modern Quilt Guild, modern traditional quilts apply other modern quilt design elements to traditional blocks in a restrained, impactful way.

Be a BECKY and embrace negative space!

Daneisha shared many example photos from various sources as well as some of her own work.

Thank you, Deneisha!

The Block of the Month for our donation quilts is "A New Leaf" and it embraces the curves that so many of our members are excited about learning and perfecting.  The instructions can be found on the guild Facebook group for members.

Dani Comstock from Prarie Quilts visited out meeting this month to announce an upcoming bus tour and gave away a free ticket to the tour to a lucky guild member!  This bus tour will depart in Tulsa for a short, one day trip to Prairie Quilt in Hennessey, OK. We will depart at 8 AM and arrive back in Tulsa by 5 PM.

The theme of our next meeting is Minimalism and it is on September 7th!
