July Meeting Recap

This Oklahoma weather in July is HOT!  But so are the creative ideas flowing through the guild for the QuiltCon Charity Quilt design.  We like to keep our design on the downlow until the big reveal at QuiltCon, but rest assured, we are fast at work!

Our retreat committee reports there are still slots available for our Fall Retreat which is scheduled for October 20th - 22nd.  Registration will be open to non-members/visitors in August.

The theme of this month meeting was "High Contrast". Debbie Ross' presentation was informative and eye catching, with many examples to demonstrate what high contrast in quilting means.

Keeping with this theme, our block of the month for our donation quilts is "Upward Trajectory".  This is also an opportunity to practice your FPP skills.  These blocks can be turned in at the August meeting and will be assembled into a donation quilt for Youth Services of Tulsa.

Tulsa MQG President Kris Farnsworth issued the 2017 President's Challenge last month!  The rules are simple, but it allows for endless creativity and ingeneous.  The challenge is to create a 24”x24” square mini quilt using whatever technique or fabrics you want and your inspiration must be a cereal box.  Challenge quilts are due at the November 2nd guild meeting.  How is everyone coming on their challenge quilt??

The Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild extended an invitation to non-members for a Workshop with Melissa Averinos on August 4th & 5th.  We appreciate the invitation and hope some of our members are able to attend.

That's a wrap for July!  In August our theme is "Modern Traditionalism".  Hope to see you there!
